Your tutor is Richard Whitehouse. He is a talented silversmith and jeweller who has many years of experience. He is also a qualified Further Education Teacher. He was trained at the Vittoria Street School of Jewellery and Silversmithing in Birmingham. He has worked in both Birmingham and in London, for Stuart Devlin, who was for a while, the Queen's jeweller. He now has his workshop where he makes jewellery and silverware.

You do not need any previous experience or tools for the course.

These are some of the skills can will learn:

Designing and making jewellery from scratch.

Making larger items in Silver.

Joining metals by soldering.

Finding and setting your own semi precious stones and cabochons*.

Using and understanding tools correctly. Learning about Chasing and Repoussé.

Hammering and texturing techniques.

Using fittings and findings (the small bits and pieces used in jewellery making such as clasps, hinges, clips etc.)

If you are a more advanced student, you can start at a more advanced level.

Each student will be taught at their own level without pressure and will be able to work at their own pace. Classes may be mixed with beginners or more advanced students.

Each student has their own jewellers bench. Basic tools and materials are provided free of charge. This does not include silver, gold and semi precious stones. Classes are no more than four students.

*A cabochon is a gemstone which has been shaped and polished smooth as opposed to facetted.
